Julie has a BFA in Acting and Directing from Texas Tech University, which is where she did her first improv show. It was short-form improv, in the style of Comedy Sportz, and it was the most exhilarating performance experience of her life.
She spent almost two decades studying and performing improv, and sketch comedy, in Los Angeles. Her team, Super Model, set a record at iO West for the longest-running streak of wins for the student cage matches and they went on to perform, on the main stage, for many years.
She was also a member of the Groundling's Sunday Company and wrote and performed sketch and improv for 83 weeks in a row (they did take off for Christmas). She was also a performer in the Crazy Uncle Joe Show.
In addition, Julie has appeared in many national commercials, including a Toyota, Progressive and Xfinity spots, which are currently running. Her most recent television appearance was opposite Seth McFarlane on The Orville. She's an award-winning film director and writer, who enjoys producing films and teaching with her husband, Markus Balwin. They have two young children who teach them a lot about the art of improvisation.
